Scope and Contents
This series holds genealogical research on families and towns in Germany and Latvia. The majority of the materials included are copies of archival materials Lev-Zion or relatives acquired from records holders in the United States and Europe, such as family registers, census tables, ship manifests, birth and death certificates, clippings and advertisements, interment orders, wills, military records, and other vital documents, dating mostly from the 19th century and mid 20th century. These documents denote birth and death dates, relationships, and professions of the individuals that Lev-Zion researched. Other reproductions of materials include articles on Jewish communities in Latvia and Germany, articles on how to do genealogic research, and printouts from genealogic resources on the Internet, mostly from the mid 1990s to the early 2000s. Much of her family was from the Courland (Kurland) region in Latvia, towns of interest include Mitau (now known as Jelgava), Goldingen (Kuldīga), and Sasmaken (Valdemarpils).
