This is the type of novel that you read for shear fun and enjoyment. It is escapism at it’s best and it’s what reading is all about.

Tory Brennan and her friends Skelton, Hi, Ben and dog Coop have all been infected. They call themselves Virals. Their biological software has been invaded by a microscopic invader which gives them the traits and instincts of a wolf. In other words they have a virus.

The island on which they contracted this is off the coast of Charleston, an island owned by the University of Charleston which is short of money and is now up for sale. This threatens the livelihood of Tory and the rest of the Virals. They determine to try to stop the sale by raising money, but where will it come from?

They learn about the history of a woman pirate, who swung both ways, called Anne Bonney. Legend has it that she left buried treasure somewhere in the region, but where? Then they discover that they are not the only ones looking for the treasure. The race is on but will their newly acquired wolf traits be enough to give them a competitive advantage?

Very well told by a writer who has a fine knowledge of forensic science and research techniques.

High school students will love this. It is fast moving,

Virals by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs

Today's book review is a guest post from my friend Colman, age 12. He'll be recommending Middle Grade and Young Adult books from time to time, so stay tuned.

For this review, he selected Virals by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs, featuring protagonist Tory Brennan, niece of acclaimed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (of the Bones TV series and novels.) Virals is a science-focused adventure series with a little bit of sci-fi crossover appeal, set in Charleston, S.C. Read on to see Colman's take on it!

This book, in all, was hilarious, interesting, and REALLY got me thinking. Virals displays a good mystery, humor, and science.

The book’s main character is named Tory Brennan. She recently moved to Charleston and hates it. But when she meets Hiram, Ben, and Sheldon, she's ready for adventure.

When spying on the suspicious and mean head of the local science facility, Loggerhead Island Research Facility, one experiment involving a dog and a virus goes wrong. The teenagers steal the dog, but soon enough, they start to feel really weird and realize that they all have a special power where they have super sensitive hearing, smell, and sight. They use these unexpected powers to
